Frequently asked questions

What is an IMEI?

A 15-digit number that identifies a mobile device. The first 8 digits identify the model.

Which IMEI should I enter if my iPhone has two?

The one labelled IMEI, not IMEI2.

What is Activation Lock?

A Find My feature that links an iPhone to its owner's Apple Account. While it is on, that account's password is needed to erase or set up the iPhone.

Where do the results come from?

A third-party IMEI data provider. See data sources.

What does 'Not available' mean?

The provider returned no value for that item.

Can you change an IMEI, or remove a blacklist report, carrier lock or Activation Lock?

No. We provide information only. Changing an IMEI is a criminal offence in the UK under the Mobile Telephones (Re-programming) Act 2002.

Do you store the IMEIs I check?

No. See the privacy policy.
